We aim to give everyone the chance to row and race throughout the year, so occasionally we’ll put together inter-club sprints or fun races. These include relay races to crow-point and back, picnic rows and mixed crew races.
During the winter months we are also involved in fun sprints with the local clubs on a monthly basis. It ensures everyone gets the experience of racing and is a great fun day without the added pressure of results.
Our Regattas and Races
Every year Appledore hosts a number of our own events.
Appledore Gig Club Regatta
Our own home regatta, hosted at the Churchfields Car Park and slipway. It’s a well supported event usually with 12 or so clubs battling for the spoils. The day includes hot and cold refreshments, live commentary and a grand draw. It’s our biggest yearly fundraiser and it’s a great day for spectators and rowers alike.
Two Bridges Race
The formidable 9 or 6 mile race takes place once a year and is organised by APGC. There are two races, the first is the mens race - which starts at Bideford new bridge and ends at the Barnstaple bridge, then the ladies race rows back from Barnstaple bridge to Appledore quay, a lesser distance of 6miles but against the tide. It’s a long, tough race and tests the endurance of even the best crews.
