Code of Conduct &
Rowing Rules
The club Code of Conduct and Club Rules are based on guidelines from the Cornish Pilot Gig Association and all members (adults and Juniors) are expected to abide by them. They are in place to ensure the safety of all members and that the integrity of the Club is upheld at all times.
1.    Remember that you are part-owner of all assets during your membership so please treat them with as much care as possible.
2.    Due care and attention should be shown towards your own safety and those around you at all times. Any behaviour deemed to be unsafe, may result in disciplinary action being taken. Non-members of the club and under 16’s are not permitted to steer the gig trolleys.
3.    Whenever possible arrive 15mins before rowing time, to help launch the boat and equally be prepared to put her away again after your row.
4.    Wear suitable clothes/shoes at each session and be prepared to get wet when launching and landing.
5.    If your crew is next to go out, be there when the boat comes in and be ready to assist.
6.    The Cox is in charge from the moment they enter the boat. They are responsible for adherence to Club policies and CPGA rules.
7.    Rowers must concentrate and listen to the Cox, being prepared to execute all commands as soon as possible. If you cannot hear, tell the Cox.
8.   The coxswain is responsible for the radio at all times
9.   All trainee coxswains must have a pilot when they go out in the gig.
10.  Rowing after dusk is not permitted. It is both the coxes and crews responsibility to ensure the boat is out of the water and on the trailer safely before nightfall.
11.   If you are a training crew – be mindful that the best results are achieved from a focused crew. Please don’t chat.
12.   Unless you are asked to do so, don’t give commands or advice to another crew member.
13.  When racing, keep your mind on the boat, not other crews. Don’t shout, swear or respond in any way to any provocation.
14.  All junior crew must wear a lifejacket in the boat, whatever crew they are rowing for, as must the Cox of that boat.
15.  Grievance Procedure - If you are unhappy with the conduct of individual club members or with any aspect of the management of the club:
• Try to resolve matters directly with individual concerned or if it is a club management issue, the committee member who is responsible.
• If you are unable to resolve it yourself, raise matter in writing (pref. by email) to the committee (via any committee member). Committee will then discuss and try to resolve and if necessary, speak to parties concerned. If it is necessary the committee will make a ruling or introduce/change policy.
• If a member is dissatisfied with outcome or if committee feels it is required, a members meeting may be called with the intention of putting the matter to formal vote of the membership.

Club &
Rowing Rules
All members should also read the policies and rules pages of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association to which we belong. Members of race crews in particular will need to be aware of specific rules when competing in regattas. As these rules change periodically please follow the link below to the CPGA web site and look at the policies section. www.cpga.co.uk

Club Clothing
We have a number of different kit items for purchase. Where possible we aim to subsidise the cost of kit by getting sponsors on board. If you’re interested in sponsoring the club, please contact us for information about the packages we can put together.

Our club colours are black and gold/yellow.
Racing vests – if you’re in a crew you will need to purchase a club racing vest. Racing vests and other club kit is available to order from A Game.
